PRINCE GEORGE – Friday morning’s storms and accompanying gusty winds have led to power outages across the region, resulting in Prince George County’s Walton Elementary closing early, school officials confirm.
On their website, Prince George County Public Schools announced Walton ES would be closing early for the day at 11 a.m. due to a lack of electricity. Dominion Virginia Power, who serves that end of the county has not been able to provide a timetable for power to be restored, resulting in their decision to close.
A wind advisory is in effect for portions of Central Virginia, where winds are expected to gust to nearly 50 miles per hour through the remainder of the day.
That wind has brought down power lines as Dominion Virginia Power reports, as of 11 a.m., over 32,000 customers are without power in the Richmond Metro/Tri-Cities area, with 560 of their 5,900 Prince George customers among them.
