PRINCE GEORGE – Virginia State Police is working with Prince George Police as they investigate a shooting that occurred near the Exit 45 interchange along Interstate 95 Thursday evening.

In a statement from Sgt. Michelle Anaya with Virginia State Police, just before 6:30 p.m., the agency received a call from the county regarding a possible shooting that took place near the entrance ramp from Crater Road to northbound I-95.

Early into their investigation, authorities determined that at least two vehicles sustained damage from gunshots, including a Ford Explorer belonging to a passerby.

While the driver of that SUV was not injured, Virginia State Police determined an unidentified 29-year-old man who later arrived at Petersburg’s Southside Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries was connected to Thursday’s shooting.

As they continue to investigate, state police stressed that they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and doesn’t pose a threat to the public.

Anyone with information connected with Thursday’s shooting to call the agency at 804-553-3445 or via email at questions@vsp.virginia.gov.  The caller can be completely anonymous.
