Last Thursday the Prince George Royals took their home field against the Petersburg Crimson Waves. After landslide-wins against both Dinwiddie (4-0) and Varina (6-0) earlier that week, the boys were ready to keep up the winning streak.
The Royals’ offense was difficult for Petersburg to keep up with; Prince George clearly dominated the game in possession time. The first quarter of the game was filled with haphazard shots. 24 minutes into the game, the Royals scored their first goal, and had an almost-full-team substitution, allowing the players to get plenty of play time. Near the end of the first half, Prince George swapped most of its players again.
The second half of the game was more eventful for the Royals, a goal in the first five minutes empowering the team, making a strong third goal not ten minutes later. Petersburg’s offense was also more effective during the second half, making several shots of their own, but the Royals’ changing goalies were able to protect the goal. As the game neared the end, the Royals were able to make two more goals within three minutes of each other.
Jose Zepada made the first goal of the match, with an assist by Neil Marks. Brandon Baker, Travis Temple, José Zuniga (with a Zepada assist), and Hunter Bartlett made the proceeding goals. Goalie Austin Aaron had 2 saves. Alex Flickinger and Hunter Bartlett had 3 saves each. Petersburg goalie Hue Bailey had a recorded 19 saves.
