PRINCE GEORGE – The date for the opening of the always-popular and ever-growing, Prince George Farmers Market for 2019 has finally been announced.

The market will make its debut on Saturday, May 4.

Residents from all over Central Virginia frequent the Saturday market for locally-grown fresh fruits and vegetables; homemade jams, jellies, candies, desserts, breads, and pickles; handmade soaps, candles, and lotions; seeds, plants, and flowers; handmade accessories of all descriptions; handmade quilts, dresser scarves, and rugs; and so much more, that you never know what you will find at the Prince George Farmers Market!

New vendors are always welcome. If you have a product or idea that you would like to introduce, this just might be your venue.

The Prince George Farmers Market will be held each Saturday after its opening in May, with the exception of August 31, because of the Labor Day holiday, and continue through Saturday, October 26, 2019.

The Saturday markets will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Prince George Farmers Market is located in Scott’s Park Pavilion, 6380 Scott Park Memorial Drive, and is adjacent to the Prince George Library. Disability parking and accessibility are available on the Scott Park Memorial Drive side of the building.

Larue Archer, Archer’s Farms, greets a market customer.

“We are looking forward to another great season in 2019,” said Kirsten Cherry, Prince George Farmers Market Manager. “We have a dedicated core group of vendors that return year-after-year that have their own followers. The result is steady traffic for most of the season.”

This year’s kickoff will coincide with the Hometown Heroes 5K, and the Prince George Woman’s Club’s Community Day. This partnership has drawn large crowds in past years, and citizens look forward to this fun-filled day. The Hometown Heroes will also have the Little Heroes Run again this year, complete with superhero capes!

The market is also trying something new this year. The market is introducing second Tuesdays in June, July, and August, to the schedule. This special weekday market will be open from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Scott Park Pavilion at the height of the fresh produce season. The dates for these additional markets are June 11, July 9, and August 13.

“Our staff is currently planning other farmers market events for the summer,” said Cherry. “These events will be advertised at the Market and on our Facebook page, so keep checking back. New vendors are always welcomed.”

The Prince George Farmers Market accepts cash, credit or debit cards, and SNAP with use of the EBT cards.
