PGHS Baseball advances to States for first time in school history

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George High School Royals are heading to the Virginia High School League state tournament for the first time in school history following a command performance in Region 5A South tournament.

Friday, the Royals bested the Monarchs of Menchville High School out of Newport News, defeating them by a final score of 13 to 5. Prior to the finals, Menchville had held their two opponents, Kemosville and Hickory, scoreless before falling to Prince George in the final.

Prince George opened the tournament on Monday, May 29 with a 7-2 win over Mills Godwin High School before advancing to face off against Deep Run High School, who also served as the host for the Region 5A South tournament.

Despite the home-field advantage, the Royals were able to outplay the Wildcats, winning the matchup by a final of 5-3.

The Prince George High School baseball team, coached by Mickey Roberts, now advance to the VHSL state championships where they face off against the 5A North tournament runner-up Halifax County at Westfield High School in Chantilly, Virginia, who defeated Stone Bridge and North Stafford before being blanked by Briar Woods 10-0 in the 5A North championship game.
