Fatal I-95 crash claims life of North Carolina man

PRINCE GEORGE – On May 7, 2019, at approximately, 1:33 a.m., the Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash with a fatality at southbound I-95, at the 36.5 mile marker.

The trooper’s preliminary investigation reveals that a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by, Christ M. Vagotis, 75, of Reidsville, NC. was setting stationary in the right lane of travel when a 1996 Peterbuilt tractor trailer traveling southbound I-95 in the right lane, struck Vagotis in the rear.

Vagotis was wearing his seat belt. Unfortunately, Vagotis succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The male driver of the tractor trailer did not sustain injuries.

The crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
