PRINCE GEORGE, Va — Amazon has launched its newest operation in Virginia, as they begin hiring for the new fulfillment center in Prince George. The new center will create 150 new, full-time jobs in the area, according to Amazon. This addition adds to an existing workforce of more than 10,000 full-time Amazon employees in the Commonwealth.
“This is great news for Prince George County,” said Jeffrey D. Stoke, deputy county administrator. “With an 8.8% unemployment rate, this gives an opportunity for Prince George citizens who are transitioning to find new employment.”
Potential employees will “pick, pack and ship Amazon basic items” to customers according to Courtney Norman, the public relations specialist at Amazon. This includes items such as cleaning supplies, paper towels and batteries. The job offers $15 minimum wage and full-time employees leading benefits, including health, vision and dental according to Amazon. Also, Amazon offers a “Career Choice” program, which pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses in “high demand,” according to Amazon.
Potential job candidates must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent to apply and be considered for the position. The jobs at the center are available on a rolling basis, according to Amazon. Amazon encourages people to sign up for text alerts, by texting “RICNOW” to “77088.”
