About the PG Pork Butt Festival

Twenty Five years ago a group of community-minded citizens organized the original Port Butt Festival and kept it going for eight years. Robert Latino, CEO of the Reliability Center and one of the original festival organizers, is chairing this year’s event. Six of the friends with whom he organized the original festival are helping him with the 2016 expanded event.
“We started the festival, when we were in our late 20’s,” said Latino. “Then we got married and had families, and the festival was more and more difficult to organize considering our other priorities in our lives. As we all remained close friends, we started thinking that we’d bring back the festival for our kids and grandkids. We approached Prince George County with the idea and they appreciated and encouraged our efforts to organize such an event in the County once again.”

County Administrator Percy Ashcraft said the County welcomed such a Community festival as it fits with their shared values. Latino added that “without the support of County, the Hopewell/Prince George Chamber and all of our gracious sponsors, this festival would not have been possible”.

Activities at the Pork Butt Festival will include inflatable games for kids and adults, Giant Pong and Human Foosball for Adults, a corn hole tournament and a free photo booth to save the memories.
Music will be supplied by two local bands: One Way Ryde and Sportsbar Rockstar.

Christine Lucy, Mrs. Virginia Plus for 2016, will be in attendance. The Miss Plus America™ Pageant System is an organization devoted to celebrating the essence of the full-figured woman and giving her an avenue in which to pursue recognition for a cause close to her heart.
